I. Educational Objectives

The major is committed to cultivate technical personnel in the field of packaging engineering who can meet the needs of economic and social development, have solid professional foundation, strong practical ability and innovative spirit. After 5-year practice in workplaces, graduates can meet the following requirements:

(1)To be able to take charge of the design of overall packaging system of product, clarify the manufacturing technique of product packaging, design and produce the packaging equipment that are used for product packaging and ensure the feasibility and security of packaging according to customers’ needs on product packaging,

(2)To be able to improve the current packaging design and methods with an attempt to save resources and improve the quality of packaging.

(3)To comply with the regulations and requirements related to the packaging, have professional ethics and the ability to communicate and work with the team.

(4)To have innovative awareness and lifelong learning ability.

(5)To have the potential to become young technical backbone in packaging engineering and related areas.

II. Program Outcomes

(1)To Master the basic knowledge of mathematics, natural science, mechanics and electricity, get familiar with the professional knowledge of packaging materials, transport packaging, packaging structure, packaging technology, packaging machinery, package printing, package testing, packaging decoration and related disciplines, and get the picture of the forefront and development trend of packaging and related industries.

(2)To acquire the method of literature retrieval and data query, analyze and solve the technical problems of packaging engineering with the help of foresaid knowledge, find effective solution or conclusion by identifying, defining, modeling, solving and demonstrating the engineering knowledge contained in the problem.

(3)Under the premise of social, legal, cultural factors as well as standards and human factors, students can propose the solution of packaging system design according to the needs of product packaging, lay down the technological process of product packaging, reasonably select the packaging materials, evaluate the performance of packaging materials, conduct test on the security of packaging with relevant standards, and select the machine design and equipment for packaging in a reasonable manner.

(4)To be skilled at testing standard of product packaging, predict and simulate the product packaging under changeable conditions of transportation and exhibition, carry out experiments, analyze and explain the experimental data, and draw reasonable and effective conclusion in order to implement the packaging function and ensure the product quality.

(5)To develop, select and use appropriate technology, resources, modern engineering tools and information technology tools for solving complex problems in packaging engineering, including the prediction and simulation of complex problems in packaging engineering, and understanding the limitations.

(6)To apply the knowledge of culture, society and environment to test, analyze and select packaging materials according to the packaging durability and cost effectiveness, and seek reliable and economical engineering approaches and solutions to have positive influence on the sustainable development of environment and society.

(7)To have cultural, social, scientific accomplishment and social responsibility, understand and comply with the professional norms of packaging industry in the engineering practice and have good team spirit and communication skills.

(8)To be able to assume the role of individual, team member, and leader in a multidisciplinary team.

(9)To be able to effectively communicate and exchange with others and society on complex engineering problems in the engineering process, including the ability to understand and write well-performing reports and design documents and to make lucid statements and answer the inquiry, have a certain international perspective, and communicate and exchange with cross-cultural and cross-language background.

(10)To get familiar with the technical standards in the field of packaging and the policies and regulations of relevant industries, control the packaging cost reasonably, and have the capacity to engage in production management, market forecasting and merchandise trade.

(11)To have independent-learning and lifelong-learning awareness and have the ability to study ceaselessly and adapt to development.

(12)To have the innovative spirit to explore the profession thoroughly, master the basic methods to give full play to the innovative thinking in the field of engineering, solve engineering problems in an unprecedented way, and have the preliminary ability to develop new packaging design, new packaging materials, new technology, new equipment and technical management.

VIII. Graduation Requirements

A bachelor degree requires 177,including:

91.5 credits of required courses, 40.5 credits of elective courses, 45 credits of comprehensive practice.

Extracurricular activities:7 credits of innovation and skills .

The student who achieves the total credits and extracurricular activities will be awarded an undergraduate diploma.
